A beautiful botanical garden is the perfect setting for an Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding. So it’s only natural that a team of vendors in Southern California would get together to showcase their talents via a whimsical styled shoot. Adding a twist to the idea, they elected to have Alice be represented as the daughter of the bride and groom, instead of taking the role of the bride herself.
The florist created unique designs to complement the beds of blooms that already filled the venue. A bouquet featuring orchids, delphiniums, roses, anemones, dahlias, and lily grass is paired beautifully with a boutonniere showcasing similar blooms, as well as quirky details such as miniature versions of a golden teapot, a wooden spool, and a watch. The model portraying the bride donned a floral necklace – this is not a piece of jewelry fashioned after flowers, but in fact intertwined lily grass with a dahlia to act as a natural pendant. For the faux ceremony, a gilded mirror served as the altar, with a burst of dahlias, tulips, delphiniums, roses, stock, and amaranthus to tie in the floral design. Wrought iron chairs add to the garden vibe, especially with the embellishment of a garland made with vibrant blossoms.
The theme of the shoot truly came alive with the tablescape for the reception – nothing would look out of place at the Mad Hatter’s tea party. An ornate confection with ballet pink fondant and gold details featured the White Rabbit as a cake topper, complete with a scroll reading, “Just Married.” Several additional unique sweet treats were scattered along the dessert table. Behind the table was a wreath of blue orchids with a wooden sign in the middle reading “this way.” Several signs appears on snacks, drinks, and favors proclaiming, “eat me,” drink me,” and “take me,” in a nod to the classic book and movie. An eclectic mix of cloches, clocks, candelabra, vintage teacups, and patterned china decorated both the guest and head tables. “A pop of color was provided by the tiny blooms strewn about the service and hidden inside the exquisite dishware,” shares the creative team. Themed escort cards were laced in teacups and held together by custom bookmarks made from flattened spoons. The model newlyweds sat with “Alice” at a vintage red velvet couch before departing to the bar.
